First, I would like to express many thanks to all of you on behalf of Dan Scott, during Dan’s time at WCCP he did many great things both on the air and off the air. Dan’s community involvement was second to none. We appreciate all that Dan did not only for WCCP during his time, but for each of you, by providing a great radio show every day.
It is hard to explain to you the “WHY” we made this decision, so I am not going to try. I will tell you that it was a hard decision and one of the hardest decisions to make. I have heard from many of you saying the way it was handled was wrong and the way we treated Dan was wrong. I will promise each of you that this situation was handled in a professional manner with respect towards Dan. As is the case in any business when you make a decision to let someone go you don’t give that person a “notice”. You certainly can’t do that in the media business. You can’t give someone an open microphone after you have told them their last day has come…I think you can see the reasons behind this.
I have read all of your emails, responded to some and called some that I had phone numbers for to talk about this decision. There are two sides to every story. I can’t get into what goes on behind closed doors at WCCP and it would not be fair to Dan for me to do that.
What I can do is thank each of you for listening to the station and thank you for the support you have shown Dan (I know he appreciates it very much).
Moving forward our line-up with be the following:
Mickey Plyler M-F 6a-9a
James Thurn M-F 9a-12nRoy Philpot M-F 12n-3p
Walt Deptula M-F 3p-7p
I have seen many emails, message board posts, facebook posts, etc. referring to James Thurn taking Dan’s spot and that he had something to do with this decision. I can assure you that James had no idea this was coming down, nor did James have anything to do with this matter.
Many people feel as if we are not committed to Clemson University as the Flagship station, this couldn’t be farthest from the truth. We work directly with Clemson on a daily basis and will continue to further our relationship with Clemson and Clemson’s Athletic Department. It is our goal to be a better Flagship station and those are the steps we are taking towards this goal.
The addition of Roy Philpot brings a level of commitment and professionalism to WCCP that will further our relationship with Clemson and we hope this will provide you with more information on Clemson.
As I said, we wish Dan the best in his next adventure in life. We know Dan will be successful in whatever he decides to do in the future. As I told Dan in our exit interview, he has our full support should he need anything and we stand by that statement.
Please feel free to continue to contact me.
Best regards,
Chris Downey
